Synorb gives AI agents SEC filings through an MCP server and a REST API, filterable by company, ticker, CIK, form type such as 8-K or 10-Q, and 8-K item code. Each filing comes back as a short summary with its key claims and a link to the original document on SEC.gov. It works in Claude, ChatGPT and any agent that supports remote MCP. Synorb publishes this guide.

Why agents struggle with raw EDGAR

SEC EDGAR is free and complete, but it was built for people and filing software, not for agents. A filing can run to hundreds of pages of HTML and exhibits. An agent that downloads them directly spends most of its effort finding the paragraph that matters, and often cannot tell a new filing from an amendment.

What to look for in an SEC data source for agents

  • Exact filters. Ask for 8-Ks only, or 8-K item 5.02 (executive changes) only, without the agent guessing.
  • Company identifiers. Ticker and CIK, so "Apple" never returns another company.
  • The original link. Every answer should point back to the filing on SEC.gov.
  • Amendments marked. An 8-K/A should be labelled as an amendment, not presented as new.

How Synorb does it

Synorb watches SEC filings for the companies it covers and turns each new filing into a Manifest: a summary, the key claims (figures, names, dates) and a link to the filing. Your agent can ask for:

  • a form type, such as 8-K, 10-Q or 10-K
  • a form variant, such as 8-K/A
  • an 8-K item code, such as 5.02 for executive and board changes
  • a company by ticker, CIK or ISIN
  • a date range, such as the last 7 days

Frequently asked questions

Can ChatGPT or Claude read SEC filings?

Not on their own. Connect them to a source of SEC filings, such as the Synorb MCP server, and they can find, summarize and cite filings by company and form.

How do I get only 8-K filings for one company?

Ask your agent for that company's 8-K filings. Through Synorb it can filter by form type and by ticker or CIK, so other forms and other companies are left out.

Does every answer link to the original filing?

Yes. Every Synorb Manifest for a filing links to the document on SEC.gov.

Is it free?

Synorb has a free Starter plan with 100 Manifests a month and no card required. Searching what Synorb covers does not count against the allowance.
